Indonesia Mandheling

Indonesia Mandheling is a very unique coffee. This coffee is processed using the wet hulling (gilling basah)process where the husk of the coffee is removed prior to drying unlike the normal practice where the husk is only removed after drying the beans. This is done due to the extremely high humidity in Indonesia that makes it very difficult to dry the bean with the husk still in place. Another reason for the wet hulling process is that farmers are normally in a hurry to get their money for the coffee and thus prefer to sell the coffee in its wet form rather than wait for the beans to dry.
The typical coffee farm in Indonesia is very small thus the farmers do not have the equipment required to process the beans and to dry them.
The grade 1 indicates that it is an excellent quality coffee and the DP indicates that the coffee was double picked(sorted twice to remove defects)
Mandheling coffee has a syrupy body with hints of chocolate and brown sugar. It is well-known for its smooth and full-bodied flavor that is both earthy and complex.
